My Budget for iPhone and iPad · Last updated: September 26, 2026
In short
- My Budget doesn’t need an account, doesn’t run its own server and shows no ads.
- Your entries are stored on your device and – if you use iCloud – in your private iCloud. We have no access to them.
- For expenses in a foreign currency, the app downloads the European Central Bank’s public exchange rates – without any information about you.
- The app contains no analytics, tracking or advertising tools.
1. Who is responsible
Maximilian RuhlEmail: maxi.ruhl@hotmail.de
2. What data the app processes
My Budget processes what you enter yourself: amounts and currencies, titles, dates, categories, payment methods, notes, merchant names, recurring expenses, your monthly budget, your settings and – if you use expense reports – receipts and the details for the report. This information is used solely to show it to you, analyze it for you and sync it between your devices.
3. Storage on your device and in iCloud
- Your data is stored on your device.
- If you’re signed in to iCloud on the device and haven’t turned off iCloud for My Budget, your data is also stored in your private iCloud database (Apple CloudKit) and synced with your other devices. Your budget and some settings are synced through the iCloud key-value store.
- The private iCloud database belongs to your Apple Account. We as the developer cannot see it. Apple’s processing is governed by the Apple Privacy Policy.
- So that changes reach your other devices quickly, iCloud uses silent notifications from Apple. We don’t run a server of our own.
4. Camera and receipt recognition
When you scan a receipt, the app asks for access to the camera. The photo is only used to read the receipt on your device – with the text recognition built into iOS and, on supported devices, also with the Apple Intelligence language model, which likewise runs on the device. The photo is neither stored nor transmitted; only the details you add to the expense are saved. Exception: if you attach the receipt to an expense report, a reduced-size copy of the photo stays with the expense (see section 10).
5. App lock with Face ID
If you turn on the app lock, iOS verifies your identity with Face ID, Touch ID or your device passcode. The app only receives the result – confirmed or not. The app never receives biometric data.
6. Reminders
Reminders, for example before large recurring expenses or when you reach your budget, are scheduled and shown on your device. No data is sent to us for this.
7. Siri, Shortcuts and automatic logging
With Siri and the Shortcuts app, you can log expenses or check how your month is going. If you set up an automation for payments, the Shortcuts app passes the amount, merchant and card name to My Budget, and the app creates an expense from them on your device. The app remembers the names of the cards you’ve paid with on this device only, so you can assign each card to a payment method. The assignment belongs to the payment method and is stored and synced along with it. Siri’s processing is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy.
8. Widgets
So that widgets can show how your month is going, the app keeps a small summary – the monthly total, your budget, recurring costs, your top categories, your spending over the last seven days and your next recurring payments – in an area on your device that only My Budget can access. This summary never leaves your device. A widget only shows amounts if you turn this on when editing the widget; on the Lock Screen and in StandBy, widgets never show amounts. Please note: anyone holding your unlocked device can see widgets on the Home Screen.
9. Exchange rates and home currency
When you log an expense in a foreign currency, the app converts it to your home currency using the reference rates of the European Central Bank (ECB). To do so, it downloads the public rate lists directly from the ECB’s servers – only if you use foreign currencies, and at most a few times a day. The request contains no information about you or your expenses; for older expenses, it only names the currencies concerned and the time period. As with any web page request, the ECB receives your IP address. The app sends no cookies or identifiers. The ECB’s processing is governed by its privacy statement.
On first launch, the app reads the country of your App Store account to set your home currency. The country is only used on your device. Only the currency is saved, and it syncs through iCloud like your other settings.
10. Expense reports
If you turn on expense reports, you can assign expenses to a report and attach receipts – photos, PDFs or other files. Receipts are stored like your expenses: on your device and, if you use iCloud, in your private iCloud; the app reduces photos in size first. Your name, the recipient and the cost center for the report are synced between your devices like your settings. The finished report – a PDF with every receipt, a table and the original files – is only created when you create it. You pass it on through the share sheet and decide yourself who receives it. We receive none of it.
11. Export, backup and diagnostics report
Spreadsheets, backups, expense reports and diagnostics reports are only created when you request them. You pass them on through the iOS share sheet and decide yourself where they go.
The diagnostics report contains technical information – app and iOS version, device model, sync status, the number of your entries, when the payment automation last ran, and technical log lines from the app – but none of the contents of your expenses, such as titles, amounts, merchants, card names or notes. If you send us a diagnostics report, we use it only to resolve your request and delete it afterward.
12. Crash reports
If you’ve turned on “Share With App Developers” in iOS Settings under “Privacy & Security” → “Analytics & Improvements”, Apple provides us with anonymized crash and performance data. It contains none of the contents of your entries. You can turn this option off at any time.
13. No sharing, no tracking
We don’t sell or share any data, don’t show ads and don’t use analytics or tracking services. The app contains no third-party software that collects data about you.
14. Deleting your data
- You delete individual entries directly in the app.
- If you delete the app, its data on that device is removed.
- You delete the data in iCloud in iOS Settings: tap your name, then “iCloud”, open the storage overview and choose “My Budget”.
15. Your rights
Under the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP) and, where applicable, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection. You can also lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority; in Switzerland, this is the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC). If you live in the United States, the privacy laws of your state – such as the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) – may give you similar rights; we do not sell or share your personal information. Because we don’t store any data about you, in most cases we can only confirm on request that we hold no data about you. If you have questions, you can reach us at maxi.ruhl@hotmail.de.
16. This page on the web
When you view this policy on the web, the hosting provider processes technically necessary data such as your IP address in order to deliver the page. We don’t use cookies or analytics tools on this page.
17. Changes
If the app changes in a way that requires this policy to be updated, we’ll update it here and in the app. The current version always applies.
